We have not dealt much so far with the relationship between the city and the surrounding country. This border needs to be handled with sensitivity. Here we have a sheltered walkway, and, just beyond, an open deck. From both within and without, the view is gorgeous, but from within it is nicely framed by the columns and low arches.
Notice what a large difference the use of an open railing makes - had this been of solid stone, the effect would have been much less attractive.
