I used this view in Carfree Cities, along with one of my own photographs, taken just about 100 years later. Since then, this canal has been filled in to make a parking lot, and the quality of this place has been dramatically diminished as a result. Fortunately, Amsterdam realized that filling canals was a ticket to killing the city, and I believe that it is now 50 years since the last canal was filled in; it is unlikely that this will happen again.
