A remarkable double gate has been constructed at the end of this square, not only providing a sense of enclosure but also offering a view of the remarkable clock tower. Note again how the wires for the tram intrude slightly on this otherwise beautiful square. This concludes our discussion of the use of gates to create "Positive Outdoor Space," as Christopher Alexander calls it in A Pattern Language. As you can see, these enclosed public spaces can be delightful, comfortable environments. Every city should have them.
