Obviously an ancient defensive work, this tower fairly shouts its function, with its utilitarian design and absence of frills. It would appear to have been heavily restored over the centuries. It doubtless provides those who climb to its top a fine view of the city. Compare this massive, overbearing structure with the light, airy Eiffel Tower. Both serve the same purpose today, but what a difference in both history and appearance.
