Panoramic Views

In his various works, Christopher Alexander has argued for the need for "High Places." He does not believe that these places should be inhabited, but that they do need to exist, if only to provide a vista out over the city. I am in full agreement with him on these points.

We will see in this chapter a series of panoramic views of cities, most of them taken from church spires and clock towers. We will consider how the skylines of our cities appeared a century ago, and how they have changed since then.
