Singular Structures

This chapter is something of a catch-all for things I thought too wonderful to omit but which did not fit anywhere else.

All of the following scenes, whether of single (and enormous) buildings, or of entire towns, evoke in me a sense of wonder that something so huge could have been conceived and executed as a single project, or else could have developed with incredible but coherent complexity over the span of centuries.
